Do you have to work in a sterile environment to grow magic mushrooms?

Yes. In nature, the survival of the fittest is the most common way things work. This means magic mushrooms have some big competitors and they have to successfully fight those competitors to succeed. Biggest players in a wide range of competition are, of course, other types of fungi and bacteria that can easily dominate magic mushrooms out of the sweet spot.

This means, you – as a successful grower have to make sure, that your magic mushrooms when grown in a domesticated way, don’t have to fight away any of these big competitors, that can easily take over your whole colony. Which in other terms, mean you have to make sure, not even minor contaminants infect your whole grow operation and kill all your hard work.

To do this – being as sterile as possible is key.
