Cannabis buds tend to get sticky and different parts of the buds can differ in density. That’s why it is important to use a special cannabis grinder to make your smoking experience more even and pleasurable. All cannabis grinders try to solve the same problem – weed grinders ground your buds to a more consistent form. Which leads to more equally burning joints, blunts, or hits of bongs/pipes.

The second very important role that cannabis grinders take on is minimizing contact between your hands (fingers) and buds. This is very important because using a cannabis grinder prevents trichomes and other main cannabinoids to get damaged or entirely removed from your smoke (meaning, they would stay as “dust” on your fingertips and nails). Better (4-part, 3 chamber) grinders will even allow you to collect this “superstrong powder” known as kief, so you can take advantage of the whole cannabis product to the maximum extent.

The most common grinders are either acrylic (plastic) or made from metal (mostly aluminum). Another notable exception is a wooden grinder, but wooden grinders are very difficult to clean and are shortlived compared to their acrylic or metal counterparts. When it comes to ease to clean, quality, and durability – metal (aluminum) grinders are the most commonly used cannabis grinders in the market!

This depends on your needs, but to sum it up – 1-2 chambers if you smoke rarely and don’t want to collect kief, 2-3 chambers if you smoke quite often and would love to collect kief. The bottom chamber, which is known as the kief chamber (if it has a mesh!) will collect fine trichomes and cannabinoids, collectively known as kief (or keef). Kief is way much more potent than any regular bud, due to the fact that it’s almost pure cannabinoid/terpene dust.
